Located just west of Austin between Interstate 183 and state highway 71, Lake Travis is a favorite recreation destination for local residents and regional visitors alike. It is widely known as the “Crown Jewel” of the Central Texas Highland Lakes.
Measuring 60 miles in length and featuring more than 270 miles of shoreline, Lake Travis was formed by the damming of the Colorado River in the late 1930s. Due to its limestone bottom, this massive, man-made lake has incredibly clear, crystal blue water.
Unsurprisingly, this exceptional body of water attracts significant numbers of boating enthusiasts. The Lake Travis area supports more than 20 marinas, many of the nation’s top boat dealerships, and multiple places to rent pontoons, sailboats, jet skis, kayaks, stand-up paddle boards, and other kinds of watercraft.
